Angie Lewin: A Print For All Seasons

Angie Lewin: A Print For All Seasons:

I love printmaking, I love everything from the quality of the ink on the paper or fabric to cutting the lino block and the way that colours layer and overlap on multi coloured prints. I should have probably trained as a printmaker but I did not realise that until post Masters. Instead I will just forever spend hours drooling over printing equipment and letter presses online.

Angie Lewin is a printmaker who produces gorgeous multi coloured prints using wood engraving, linocut, silkscreen, lithograph and collage printmaking techniques. Lewin is inspired by cliff tops and saltmarshes of the North Norfolk coast and the Scottish Highlands from where she documents the horticultural elements and transforms them into printed illustrations of beautiful colour pallets with areas of pattern and blocks of overlapping colour.

Lewin’s prints depict the realationships between plants and their habitats, she states that the fine lines on the flower buds in her prints are insect eggs and illustrated imagery of seeds and buds the beginning of plant life cycle are evident within many of her print designs.

Lewin studied Fine Art Printmaking at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design postgraduate printmaking course at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts. She began work as an illustrator but after studying horticulture and a moving to Norfolk she return to printmaking.
