Textile Designer: Sarah Bagshaw

Textile Designer: Sarah Bagshaw:

The beauties that you see above are the work of Sarah Bagshaw, a very talented up-and-coming textile designer from the UK. Sarah has been a designer, illustrator and lecturer for years, but has only recently started promoting herself and selling her work as a textile designer. There is a fun, ethnic-flair to her work that I find irresistible! Sarah also has a wonderful blog, Patterns, fabric, art, paper and things I like, which I highly recommend checking out when you need a little inspiration. Please stop by Sarah’s website and say hello!

DAY 5 THE FRENCH ONE #MATCHBOXADAY

DAY 5 THE FRENCH ONE #MATCHBOXADAY:
e French one, pale pink paper on the outside with a glittered postmark and the word ‘Paris’, tied with a pretty chiffon bow, open the doily gates and inside the tiny drawer tied with a gold tassel, lies a vintage Eiffel Tower brooch, surrounded by a piece of antique map showing the palace of Versailles. Vintage pearls line the edges and a length of delicate french trim with a dusting of glitter sparkles in the light.Sunday evening and no roast for us, being mid detox, so this little match box really cheered my day. Although it will break my heart a little bit to part with the vintage brooch which I have had for years, that is why it is the first to sell at £20 ($32). But all the proceeds go to charity so I know it is for a good cause ! x

DAY 4 THE LACE ONE #MATCHBOXADAY

DAY 4 THE LACE ONE #MATCHBOXADAY:
Day 4. The lace one, eleven small samples from my collection of vintage lace adorn the tea dyed pages of a tiny concertina style book, each sample is numbered and stitched to the paper. The outside and drawer of the box are painted to look slightly aged, topped with brown card, a gilt edged vintage label from an old NYC lace sellers sample book, a small scrap of lace and a shabby pink ribbon..It’s listed over at Etsy now x

3GIRLS+aGOAT

3GIRLS+aGOAT:
I’m pleased to share today’s interview with Steffen Tuck, creator and owner of the innovative (and creatively named) shop 3GIRLS+aGOAT. I’m a fan of Steffen’s unique and eclectic art style. She uses a variety of colors, patterns, and textures that are indistinguishably unique to her. And if you’re a fan of paper garlands, then Steffen’s shop is definitely the shop to peruse. She currently has over 30 garlands in stock to select from in various shapes and colors, many upcycled from aged books and perfect for adding a touch of love for Valentine’s Day and leaving on display all year long.
Read below for an interview the Australian-based shop, but first, let’s have a look at some of my favorites from Steffen’s shop:

Craftster Pick of the Week – QR Code Weaving:
Time for another look at some of the great work featured in the forums at Craftster. Note: Although they’re the pick of this week, they may have appeared before this week.
Trekky pulls off an amazing project with this woven QR code.
Trekky's Woven QR code
Interesting she says that the woven piece doesn’t work with QR readers, but a picture of it does.

Either way, it’s a fantastic job!

Learning an unfamiliar craft to earn income

Thanks to a steady flow of orders from Tekserve, the oldest Apple store in Manhattan, which supports good causes in Haiti, the resilient women of Verrettes are recovering. They are now working on beautiful iPad sleeves. These and other McSocks are for sale at Tekserve starting November 22nd and can be ordered online at www.turtletreefoundation.org.
The women are still facing many obstacles. But as Elcina Désulmé, one of the group leaders, sings with a little smile, “Piti, piti, wazo fe nich li.” Little by little, the bird makes its nest.

The Cutting (& Stitching) Edge – Matthew Cox

The Cutting (& Stitching) Edge – Matthew Cox:

Matthew Cox is an artist from Philadelphia who works in a range of media, and is gaining attention for his embroidered x-rays.
“About ten years ago I began to respond to x-rays and Medieval tapestry as objects of beauty at about the same time. Because I had been thinking about redefinition of materials that have an expected purpose for some time it seemed natural to lay these two items over one another.

Plush Love (& a Sandwich) – Love & Monsters

Plush Love (& a Sandwich) – Love & Monsters:

Hey guys, It’s Chelsea Bloxsom of Love & a Sandwich!

This is my very first post for Plush Love (& a Sandwich).  I thought it’d be great to start off my first plush post with something I’m personally obsessed with.  Monsters!  These have all come from my Etsy Favorites, because I am constantly looking through the Plush Monsters tag.  I am never disappointed with the creatures I come across, they are always so inspiring!

Sally Lolliland by monstalove.   The fur and expression is fantastic on this!  Click the link to read Sally’s great background story too.
Joel’s Papercut Monsters are a style I’ve never seen before, and the effect is so cool.  They start out being paper collages, then the designs are printed onto canvas, and turned into plush!
I’ve always loved Michal’s Forestdwellers because they look like cartoon characters come to life!  Her creatures always have cute background stories as well.

Chelsea Bloxsom is the woman behind Love & a Sandwich.

She is most known for making monsters out of faux fur, but has recently gotten into making embroidered and appliqued fanart on embroidery hoops!  Her work can be found updated almost daily here!
