Books | End Paper Inspiration:

If you’re like me and love a good read, then you’ll find the selection of gems unearthed by Persephone Books a rare treat. Printing mostly “neglected fiction and non-fiction by women, for women, and about women,” this London publisher uses vintage patterns for the end papers matching the spirit and time period of each title. Treat yourself by subscribing to the book-a-month club or pick up a few titles to hand out as gifts since the holiday season is right around the corner.

CMYLK: Milliken Flooring

For this week’s installment of CMYLK, we’ve done something a little different. Instead of artwork and rooms, we’ve created Colourlovers palettes for four rugs from Spartanburg, South Carolina-based floor covering company Milliken. These abstract designs are works of art in and of themselves.

Sparklymouse’s stitched portrait

Sparklymouse’s stitched portrait:
Louise Jones, aka Sparklymouse, has been doing interesting things with a needle and thread for quite a while now. This particular piece is pushing my buttons.

Feature Designer: Laura Banchik

Feature Designer: Laura Banchik:

Hello everyone and happy new year!!!! Today’s featured designer is Laura Banchik, a graphic designer from Argentina who has recently entered the world of surface design. Laura starts her design process by drawing and painting by hand and then manipulating the design in Photoshop. I think this method, along with her unique color usage, gives her work the beautiful, organic texture and movement that you see above. Laura recently moved back to Buenos Aires after spending four years in Barcelona and is currently looking for a job, either freelance or permanent. To view more of Laura’s work please visit her website.

Featured Designer: Tali Furman

Featured Designer: Tali Furman:

You may recognize today’s featured designer, Tali Furman, from a previous Pattern Observer feature. I love her work, so I was thrilled to see her new pieces and to hear about all of her success over the past few months! Tali started designing textiles for one of the biggest companies in Israel, GOLF, and recently moved to London to attend a MA program at the Royal College of Art.
It is wonderful to see a designer’s work evolve over time and I think these new abstract pieces are a wonderful addition to her collage-inspired work. To learn more about Tali, please visit her website. Have a fantastic weekend!

Known for his visually intense work and populist aesthetic, visual artist Tim Biskup grew up in Southern California and, adding music to his creative talents, started the band Big Butter with his brother, Mike. Textile Designer: Sarah Bagshaw

Textile Designer: Sarah Bagshaw:

The beauties that you see above are the work of Sarah Bagshaw, a very talented up-and-coming textile designer from the UK. Sarah has been a designer, illustrator and lecturer for years, but has only recently started promoting herself and selling her work as a textile designer. There is a fun, ethnic-flair to her work that I find irresistible! Sarah also has a wonderful blog, Patterns, fabric, art, paper and things I like, which I highly recommend checking out when you need a little inspiration. Please stop by Sarah’s website and say hello!
