Brook&Lyn

Brook&Lyn:
Amy and I have been obsessing about woven wall hangings for a while now. She’s been bookmarking great vintage options on Etsy, and I’ve been slowly stalking all my favorite contemporary designers. I picked up a great wall hanging by Nightwood during their One Kings Lane sale, but I’ve been eying a few more to add to my collection. At the top of my list are these jaw-dropping designs by Brook&Lyn’s Mimi Jung. I first saw Mimi’s designs at Of a Kind (you can listen to their After the Jump interview here), but her latest designs are breathtaking. Each of her incredibly lush wall hangings are made with a mix of yarn, copper and natural materials like palm tree bark. The colorful pieces above and below (check out that eye design — swoon) are my favorites, but you can view her full collection online right here. If I happen to stumble upon a stack of one hundred dollar bills any time soon, I’m going to make one of these mine. The texture makes me weak in the knees. xo, grace

Canevas Spaces by Charlotte Lancelot

Canevas Spaces by Charlotte Lancelot:

I’ve always loved the look of oversized stitching. I love that sort of detailing on just about anything, but I especially love it on furniture. These ottomans, cushions and rugs were designed by Charlotte Lancelot and have that same stitch detailing I love. To me they look like giant needlepoint projects that were filled in with brightly colored yarn. The collection was designed to be mixed-and-matched together, but I think just one of these pieces would be perfect. Bonus? The model totally reminds me of Jay McCarrol’s winning crochet/headphone collection for Project Runway. Click here to check out and shop the full collection online, prices range from $245 (cushions)- $3k (rugs). xo, grace

Artist Emil Lukas’ colorful gradient-laden pieces are surprisingly not detailed paintings, but beautiful works of art made with thread! The artist transforms ordinary materials such as thread and string into soft lines and fields of color. The resulting works appear as if there are delicate shadows edging the planes. The crossing threads have a glowing effect, as if a spotlight is being shone on the center of each piece. Lukas builds up threads to create more colorful pieces, while some use very little, creating stark images with thick shadows in the corners. The network of rainbow threads can be seen built up around the piece’s edges, as it heads to the back of the picture to be fastened into place.

Craftster Pick of the Week – QR Code Weaving:
Time for another look at some of the great work featured in the forums at Craftster. Note: Although they’re the pick of this week, they may have appeared before this week.
Trekky pulls off an amazing project with this woven QR code.
Trekky's Woven QR code
Interesting she says that the woven piece doesn’t work with QR readers, but a picture of it does.

Either way, it’s a fantastic job!
