By Michala Gyetvai, this very talented lady is exhibiting some work in my local art gallery in a couple of months, I’m so excited to see it in person, the textures need to be seen physically, they are so beautiful.

Sticker Project
Sticker Project: It's was a relief this afternoon to submit the work I have done for the sticker project at Bradford College, having beavered away all this week. I have been making a series of six handmade textile and paper 'stickers' titled 'Enter the Woods' based on a found verse (I think from an old hymn). If anyone knows who wrote this please let me know.
I think God gave the woods to us,
That we might steal away,
Alone to those green solitudes,
From all the noise of day,
I think God gave the woods to us,
To teach our souls to pray.
Each sticker includes a line from the verse enclosed within a folded piece of plant dyed cloth. I have used fine silk and metallic fabrics in subtle colours that seemed to mimic the colours of weathered concrete, wood and metal. This work aims to entice the viewer to explore green spaces, escaping the noise and bustle of city life. I imagine the stickers positioned around the urban environment, to be found in an intimate encounter with an unexpected artwork.
Below are some photos I took to see how the stickers might look in situ.
The stickers will join a large number of self-adhesive mini artworks by fellow Bradford staff and students, in locations in Spain and England to coincide with the Bilbao Art Fair. Rather than exhibit work in a gallery or art fair the project seeks to explore alternative, temporary locations for art by placing stickers outside the gallery, in urban spaces, on walls, pavements and unexpected public places. If anyone manages to see one let me know!

Back in the Day
Back in the Day:
Before my last quarter at SCAD, I decided that during our winter break I would get a head start on one of my portfolio projects. So I got this grand idea that I would create branding/identity for a fictitious soup restaurant (because who doesn't like a bowl of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich? Comfort food). The designs you see are variations of the logo, some coasters, and tray covers. Well, I didn't actually continue with the project when I got back to school, but I thought it was fun. Creating the patterns was my favorite part, of course.

It's almost here
It's almost here: I can't believe its nearly time to install my work at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair, it all starts on Wednesday and then we open to the public on Friday. If you are in or around Manchester this weekend then please drop in to see lots of amazing craftspeople and say hello, I'd love to meet anyone who follows my blog.
I've spent every spare minute making new work for the show, hence the lack of posts recently. I'm very excited but equally nervous, this is the first time I've done anything like this since my MA show. You will be able to find me in Room 3, Stand 99. But in the meantime I will leave you with a little taster of what to expect.

Matt W. Moore
Matt W. Moore:
Portland, ME based graphic artist Matt W. Moore recently returned from Moscow, Russia, where he exhibited his work at Sretenka Design Week. This latest round of work was created during a residency in Moscow in August 2011. If you were a fan of his older work, you will love this latest series entitled Sun Ray Ricochet. In addition to the color and grey-scale canvases, he also painted three murals, and 17 geometric sculptures. The pieces in the series have prism-like, refractive qualities that often look like optical illusions. I love that he took the same qualities as his paintings and created the three-dimensional sculptures.

Cordula Kehrer: Bow Bins
Cordula Kehrer: Bow Bins:
We are loving the make-do-and-mend mentality of Cordula Kehrer’s Bow Bins, recycling old and broken plastic bins with wicker and rattan using traditional weaving techniques and local basket makers. The project is now being produced in cooperation with a Philippine fair trade organisation who employ original tribespeople to make the bins using local and sustainable material – which is very nice indeed.

Novum Magazine’s Foldable Paper Cover
Novum Magazine’s Foldable Paper Cover:
Extremely colorful and foldable, the cover of German design magazine Novum was inspired by Richard Buckminster Fuller. Created by Hamburg-based agency Paperlux, the geometric cover allows readers to bend and fold the cover any way that they wish. More then 1,000 triangles were die-cut into the surface of the paper – more than 140 die cuts per cover.
